Four local leaders receive Human Rights Awards

TAMPA — The Tampa Human Rights Council announced the four recipients of its 35th annual Human Rights Awards on Wednesday. The awards went to:
• Dwight Shingledecker, a founding member of the United States Coast Guard's Flotilla 74 with a commitment to diversity and justice as well as a longtime volunteer relationship with groups including the NAACP.
• Lydia Medrano of the Children's Board of Hillsborough County, who has held various leadership positions in groups dedicated to equal access for Hispanics and others.
• Donna Schulz, law enforcement coordinator for the United States Attorney's Office Middle District, whose work includes battling hate crimes and human trafficking.
• Julianne Holt, public defender of Hillsborough County, who created an internship program at her office to help learning disabled students transition into the workforce.
Winners will attend the Human Rights Council's breakfast on Dec. 11. For more information, visit www.thhrc.org
