ABOUT
HISTORY
In 1974, the City of Tampa Office of Human Rights/Community Services, in conjunction with the National Association of Human Rights Workers (NAHRW), held its first Annual Human Rights Awards Celebration Banquet in recognition of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, by the United Nations in 1948.
In 1980, Hillsborough County joined the efforts and in 1983, other agencies concerned about human rights became actively involved in a year round effort towards promoting human rights for all individuals.
PURPOSE
The primary purpose of the Tampa/Hillsborough Human Rights Council is to advocate and promote through education, publicity, negotiations and other means – the legitimate and human rights of all residents of Hillsborough County.
Whenever feasible, the Council works in cooperation with, and in support of, established community agencies/groups that are dedicated to the defense and strengthening of these rights, and in its membership and actions which reflect such goals.
